Good speed tests for really fast broadband?

My cable modem provider (a municipal outfit) just speed-bumped me from 5mbit down / 512k up to 8mbit down / 768k up as part of a systemwide rollout. I can get the 700kbit-plus results on upload tests, but no download tests show me going much higher than 4mbit.

So far I've tried dslreports, bandwidthplace, cnet, speakeasy, and pcpitstop... any other suggestions? My current theory is that I don't have a test capable of feeding data fast enough to report the results properly... or perhaps the d/l is not all it's cracked up to be? 🙁

dslreports is your best bet in my opinion. I've had and seen screenshots of ridiculous results there. A few were while I was in the dorms on a dual ds3 connection, and it showed my speeds correctly. I've seen screenshots of people being in the 30-40 mb range though. BTW, what do you pay for that connect. 8 mb d/ 768 k u are really good speeds for home internet.

gsalvidar: dslreports = broadbandreports.

thegimp03: My provider is SELCO, the municipal electric / cable company for Shrewsbury, MA. They are not affiliated with any of the majors, and I gotta say that they do a decent job of keeping their offering current (digital cable w/On Demand) and relatively cheap. The plan costs me $50/mo, $60 for non cable TV subcribers. And the best part is, my job expenses the broadband cost 😀
