Good speakers under $300

Not really. If you've got a decent receiver you shouldn't have any issues. I have the same pair running off a Yamaha and it does quite well beyond the volumes at which I listen.

The issue is, as the impedance drops, the amp needs to deliver more current (amperage) and less voltage for the same amount of SPL. As long as the amp is designed well, the overcurrent protection will ensure nothing bad happens. Usually you'd have to make the speakers really, really loud to do this though.
 
Using a Intregra 5.2 in my man cave. The living room has the Onkyo 606. The speakers are for my man cave. Not sure that unit has enough power for those speakers
 
75w/channel is plenty
i'd start to get worried if it was <20w AND you planned on turning it up really loud (you'd probably just use the home theater one in that case though)

a reminder: on page 17 under connecting speakers it says you have an impedance selector switch, you probably want to check that and set it to 4 ohms min/speaker as per the manual. Old electronics with their manual switches 😛.

Assuming you have minimal soldering skills and 30 min to assemble them the Dayton BR-1 Kit from parts express cant be beat in that price range.

I have a freind that had them before i purchased them and they sounded better than any other bookshelf i listened to untill you hit the $500+ price range.
