So here's my history with them.

First one was a Sony Minidisk player which I LOVED because of the cool minidisks. I thought it sounded great when I first got it.

Then I got a PC, and onboard realtek 5.1. That sounded a Little bit better with CDs but Mp3 Sounded about the same

Then I finally broke to peer pressure in Highschool and got an ipod. Worst purchase in my life, MP3 sounded terribly muddled even compared to onboard.

Then came Audigy 2 ZS. I was blown away by the clarity and separation of each sound channels.

Then in College I broke to peer pressure again and got an Iphone, AGAIN i'm plagued by muddled mp3s and high noise floor, all 320kbps listened through sennh cx300s.

Here I sit on a Xfi Xtreme Music, which I just modded last night with National Oamps. I finally have clarity greater than my original Audigy 2 ZS sound card.

NOW I want to know if there is an MP3 Player out there that is at least sound card quality.

Thx

Sound card quailty? No, there isn't enough processing power in an mp3 player to match that but there are better sounding mp3 players than apple. I've heard many people love the creative players for sound quality, but I wasn't too impressed. Right now I have a cowon D2 and this thing has fantastic SQ. It has a fully customizable 5 band equalizer, plus extra sound enhancements that actually sound good.

For cheap the Sansa Clip has pretty amazing sound quality. Take a look at a few reviews and it may surprise you.

I don't trust these reviews, the same people that say iphone is great. This has been my problem. Is the only way, to lug around a usb xfi with a net book? If i have a back pack i guess this isn't toooo bad.

Is my suggestion not good enough? Really...try the cowon brand players. They're pretty much the only brand pretty constantly loved by audiophiles.
