Good, small laptop

Basically the title. My dad wants a small (less than 14" screen) laptop for regular work, such as word processing, browsing the web, occasionally encoding videos, handling large amounts of videos and photos, etc.

He's been considering the new Acer Aspire One, but is turned off by the fact that it comes only with Linux. He faces a similar problem with the Asus Eee.

Recently, he has considered the Toshiba U450D with Vista Ultimate. However, reviews indicate that its battery life is horrid, and its performance isn't up to par with its peers.

So basically, any similar/better laptops at the same price range at a similar size?
