Good, Small GMRS Radios

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to stay in touch with PPL at the ski hills this winter, so I'm looking for some small, GMRS radios. I'm in Canada but am willing to order an American model if they provide better range due to higher wattage.

Anyone got any advice? Anything to stay far away from?

I've had good luck with the Midland 5 watt model GTX600 radios. In mountains or hilly country you'll lose reception as soon as there is earth between folks, unless it is cloudy.

I guess the question is now, if I order these online what are the odds that they get caught at the border? 5 Watts isn't legal up here in canada....

I've never smuggled anything into Canada so I can't help you with that part. Maybe you could roadtrip to NY and hide a pair inside a loaf of bread.
