Good Ski's for beginner skier?

My girlfriend just started to ski, and she loves it.

Any recommendation on brands, or combo sets that we should look at?

I want her to have good safe equipment.

female-specific skis would be a good start assuming she is shorter and lighter than most males. you should be able to get an intro set w/ bindings for about $299 and then get some decent boots. places like sports authority often have good entry skis. you want a narrow "waist" for easy turning.

Rentals (from a ski shop). Then buy a set for half price at the end of the season.
