there isn't really a trick to it. provided you have a decent burner, and use decent media then you will have no problems.

all the cds that i have made backups of sound exactly the same as the originals.

try this site...they have TONS of stuff just on CD recording in general...and good links as well...also, check into things like exact audio copy if you want archive music on your PC...

If you are copying music cds, the only thing to use is Exact Audio Copy. You can find a tutorial on how to set it up here The Coaster Factory. IMHO combined with LAME it is also the best MP3 ripper/encoder. Info on using LAME with EAC can be found here.

Ditto cloudchief. I'm new at ripping/encoding but EAC/Lame w/Razorlame have my votes.
