Hey community,

I currently have a problem in games. I have a R9 390 (gpu) and a Xeon E3-1231 v3.

But in games like GTA 5 I only have like 15-27 FPS on normal settings. I know from some benchmarks on YouTube, that I should be able to play GTA 5 on Ultra-Settings with 50-70 FPS, but it doesnt work.

Can anybody here help me maybe to fix this problem? Maybe my CPU doesnt get enough power? Maybe my power adapter isn't good enough?

Thank you for every help! :)

If your system wasn't getting enough juice it would crash or not start up at all. Your CPU isn't designed for typical desktop / gaming workloads which could have a big effect and you also didn't state your monitor resolution. On top of these things, GTA V can be a performance killer depending on the scene and settings used.

But in videos like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcHIGJiq2dQ it does work fine.

Again, you didn't state your monitor resolution which is the #1 performance determinant. Are you comparing your system with the same scene in that video? Some scenes in GTA V can bring FPS down hard. How much system rap do you have? Are you GPU drivers up to date? Are you using AA? What kind of AO are you using? I do believe there are a few extra settings that can be increased even after enabling Ultra settings. Are those settings toggled up?

If you lower graphical settings and your framerates improve, your GPU is the limiting factor here. If you lower graphical settings and framerates don't improve, your CPU is the limiting factor.

I have the same CPU and with a 280X--though I haven't yet played GTAV, I haven't had problems with games like Witcher3 and Shadow of Mordor and other modern demanding games @ 1080P with msotly Very High-Ultra settings.

100% OP is trying to push 1440 or more likely 4K and AA, etc with that hardware.

Most likely the CPU, I use to have a R7 370 and it ran fine with a core i5 4590 with little stutter, and got a little less than 60FPS, so I upgraded to a MSI GTX 970 and I can run it at about 70-80 FPS solid with Very High - some ultra settings @1080p

List your:
  1. Game.
  2. Settings.
  3. Resolution
Otherwise everyone is just blindly speculating.
