Can someone recommend a good set of steak knives? I only need 4 or so, and don't want to spend a ton of money. Thanks!

I have these, and really like them. They don't feel "flimsy" like other sets I've bought, and the are pretty sharp. My Mom got them for me for xmas.

The "gourmet" line is much cheaper than their "classic" line, and it is a flimsier knife in comparison, but I still like them more than any other set I have had.

Anyhow, here is the same set in the classic line:

I was thinking like 25 bucks for 3 or 4 knives...60 bucks is a bit out of my range

The blades he linked will probably be lifetime purchases if you take good care of them. I've had many blades ruined by my siblings being retards, but the Wusthof's almost always seem to take the abuse better and sharpen back up perfectly. I'm sure you can find a better deal on other types of their knives.

Yes, I hide (most) of them now.

I have a set of these. I tend to prefer the Wusthof Steak knives better. The serrated edge on these knives to me seems incredibly dull and more like a saw. The texture it leaves after cutting steak is pretty low-class. It's like using a long bread knife on roast beef. Aside from being terrible for cutting compared to a higher quality steak knife, they are amazingly durable. Most likely because they are so dull to begin with.

Those are definitely at the bottom of the Henckels line. I have these, which are incredible (but much more expensive): http://www.amazon.com/Henckels-Inter...s+steak+knives

I've also used these in the past and they've worked really well too: http://www.amazon.com/Zwilling-J-A-H...s+steak+knives

Come on, guys. Steak knives. Crappy ones will do in a pinch.

Might as well recommend that he start serving steak on these and then using real, non-serrated knives for cutting.

Yeah, straight knives are only going to work if they're kept sharp. Otherwise, enjoy your meat-smashing-tool, 'cause that's all it'll do.

OTOH, you can dig a serrated knife out of your yard and it will cut meat just fine.

I got these for my mother...

They cut great, and the quality is ok. They're interesting to look at. They look like folding pocket knives, but don't fold. They're French made, and you can sometimes find them at places like Marshalls. I'd get them for the visual appeal more than the quality, but they do cut.

My sister has some kind of surely-expensive silverware with those dumbass sideways handles. Whatever moron thought that was a good idea needs a stern slap in the face with a bullet from a gun.

It's a flat sideway handle. Awesome knives. Learned about them from seeing Feran Adria (world's greatest chef) talk about them.

Michelin rated restaurants wouldn't be using them on their customers if they weren't extremely comfortable using them. ;)

Unfortunately, I've used a knife before. I don't grab it like a retarded caveman. So that handle is extremely unnatural, uncomfortable, and...retarded.

Those are used in high-end restaraunts to make their gullible patrons go 'ooohh...how inventive!'

Why don't you go ahead and flip the handles on the forks 90*, too? Seems more 'natural' to me. Enjoy stabbing yourself in the lips.

On clearance (~$25 shipped)
non-serrated (easy sharpening and better slicing action)
one-piece (no crevices for germs to hide)

I have these and like them.
IMO it's important to have cheap steak knives so that you don't hate your guests when they inevitably abuse the shit out of them.
That is a very good deal.

I really like those for the money. You should add WMF to your list of bang-for-buck too WMF set of 4
