I have an iBook G3 (14.1", 900mhz) and I had some troubles with it. I've had it sent in three times for service. Now, I know, this is not a good thing, but seeing that I abuse the hell out of it, it's less their fault then mine.

And every time:
1. Overnight DHL First-class shipping both ways (including padded box)
2. Upwards of $300 in repairs, covered each time
3. Returns in 5 days, with shipping

Check this out, apparently I've had 2 major repairs and one minor. If I have any more trouble with it, they said, and need another major repair, they'll give me a new $1499 iBook G4. And, because I've had it through the service center before, they mark it as a "priority" case and it gets bumped up in the line.

Here are the main reason's it's been in for service:
1. Highschool student
2. Backpack
3. Hopping fence, daily.
4. Bus
5. Did I mention Backpack?

Edit: I've been advised to stop typing here. Feel free to continue on to the replies.

Many people are Apple-bashers and they say Apple sucks.
Their reason:
1. There are more PC's than macs.

I'd like to point out at this time that these are generally the same people who listen to music because everybody else is.

The reason that there are more PC's than Macs is because Bill Gates made one great business deal a few years ago that got many PC mfg's to sign with Bill for 5 or so years.

During these 5 years, PC's were cheaper than Macs (Actually, that's still true, but anyway) so companies started out with MsDOS (Not actually written by MS) and Windows 3.1 (== t3h sux).

Humans are afraid of change, and thus, when you compared PCs and Macs side by side at the time, Macs were superior, people were, once more, afraid of change.*

Even Anand himself has said that he prefers Macs to PCs, even though he is a (and i quote) "diehard PC fan". Look for the article on Anandtech.

Believe it or not, when PC users had a black background and light green text, Mac users were enjoying color 3D pie charts. It's true.

And today, while Windows users have to Fck around with Windows XP (aka Windows NT) Mac users are enjoying features like Exposé.

Anyway, i'm too tired to go on, but feel free to start a flamewar / argument / discussion / complete anarchy about it. Or you could make stupid remarks and reply with one word neff's, which i'm sure will happen. Have fun

And your reasons are completely flawed and make no sense.

PC user != Windows user. There are other O/Ss for x86. But you probably already knew that...

Your music example is stupid, music preference and computer preference have no correlation that I'VE seen. The people I know with the most varied and obscure music are...surprise surprise...PC users.

Macs WERE indeed better for a while, back when they had OS 6 and 7 and PCs were still mucking around with MSDOS and the really crappy versions of Windows (3.11, 95). However, once Windows got better (2k, and to a lesser extent 98), and the hardware just took off (Mac competed well against the P2, less so against the P3, and for a while they were laughable against the P4), Mac had much less of an advantage. A few years ago you'd be a fool to buy a Mac, since PCs were obviously much better.
These days, Mac has finally come up with a processor that can compete again, and put a lot of work into OS X to compete with WinXP. However, there are still good reasons to buy either machine.

Since I like mucking around with hardware and software, I enjoy the greater degree of control that one has over a Windows machine, not to mention cheaper hardware. To really muck around with the OS of a Mac, you have to go to the command prompt and know a LOT of *nix. I also game, which is another big factor. The OSes are about on par, I'd say. OS X is a bit more of a memory hog, though neither of them does well on little memory.

For someone who just does internet/email/office, Macs are probably better. They are certainly less likely to bite you if you don't know much about computers (screwing up your system, getting a virus, spyware). The price is still a little high, but it's gotten much better.

The music example is just a reference to people following the herd.

And, yes, I have a PC soley to game.

Also, there's a good reason that few macs have Norton 2k4 or AdAware on them, you PC users might want to find out about these ;-)

I'm not a Mac basher, I'd love to own an Apple (minus the eMac, not that POS)

The only thing is that I don't have a lot of $$ for an Apple. . .

However, I'd love to own a G5 Powerbook when they are released :D

btw, your poll needs "both"

There are some things a Mac can do that a PC cannot, and there are things that a PC can do that Macs cannot.

Maybe if Apple made products that don't break down after a year, just after the complimentary warranty expires, people won't have to shell out another $300 for another additional 2 years of service. I guess you never heard of all the APC horror stories.

My Sony LCD came w/ a 3 year warranty. I've exchanged it 4 times. Each time Sony sends me a replacement within 2 days, I put the failed LCD into the box the replacement LCD came in, call FedEx for pickup. I didn't have to pay a penny.

With that said, I like PCs and Macs equally, I just don't like APC.

the reason would be almost all viruses and spyware/adware are written for windows because almost all computers are windows-based.. it doesn't make sense to target the 2% of computers that are macs, when you could be going after the other 98% that are windows PCs.

Your reasons why macs aren't liked are true, for the most part. Thats just how capitolism works, though. Its the same reason we don't see many Betamax video players. Nothing wrong with them, but VCRs won out.

Bottom line for me is macs are overpriced. Its the same reason I don't buy sony vaios. I can build it cheaper, better, and half the money i would be paying was because of the word "mac" or "sony", or the style of it.

The only thing really different about macs anymore, hardware wise, are the motherboards/processors, btw. The ram, the hard drives, the vid cards, the optical drives.. all interchangeable with a PC, for the most part.

No, I used to be a loyal Mac user starting around OS 6. However, because the OS 8 series sucked, I got sick of my computer getting that annoying crashing screen with the bomb every time I use any program other than Netscape Navigator, and then have to endure a fifteen minute disc repair screen after restarting. Finally I got over my fanboyism, tried Windows 2000 Professional, and have used it ever since.

Does the OP need a more robust computer or is the Mac a piece of crap?

Bragging about Apple's warranty service is not the best argument for buying a Mac.

Should I consider a Mac for my next computer?
Probably not, because some guy posted that he had to sent his into the shop three times at $300!!!! per office visit. His computer is so bad, Apple is going to give him another one if he has more trouble with it.

After all the hassle the OP has had with a Mac you would think he would avoid them like the plague.

wow, good job reading his post correctly. he said there was $300+ in damage every time, but apple covered it, he payed nothing. also notes that he freely admits to abusing his laptop, so its no suprise that its broken so much.

Exactly. I didn't know AppleCare even covered accidental damage like that. From the op's post:

"Here are the main reason's it's been in for service:

3. Hopping fence, daily.
4. Bus
5. Did I mention Backpack? "
