Good Second Car?

I'm looking at possibly getting a car for college, since my current car is a piece (84 volvo wagon, but it runs!). Anyway, I have no idea where to start, I'm looking for a used car, I'm friends with a dealer who can get a pretty good deal at auction for me, but I won't be able to spend more than $10,000.

Any suggestions on a good used car for me? I want it to be safe and comfortable, doesn't have to be the most powerful thing on 4 wheels but i would prefer some decent speed and handling.

Maybe look for like a 94ish Volvo 850 or something along those lines
safe, handle good, great power (turbo), good reliability.

If the idea of being seen in an old Volvo scares you, a Ford Focus may be just up your alley. A 2000-2001 Focus runs around 10k, and most are well-equiped.

I'd be more scared of being seen in a new Ford Focus than an old Volvo. Plus the Volvo will be around longer. 😀

I agree with Nate 😀
I think a mid 90's 850 would be perfect.
