good scanner for photos.

hi
i want to buy a scanner mostly using to convert old 6X4 inch photographs into Jpeg. But i want highest quality photo scan please suggest good scanner. And what is difference between photo and document scanner? Can document scanner used for photo scanner?
Thanx

Maybe a few things to point out to the OP. When doing large things like 4x6 paper one does not need super duper high quality to just do JPEG. And file sizes can get enormous in super high quality mode. As it is, photo scanning 35MM film negatives and slides where high quality is really needed.

And to some extent there is no difference in scanners, but a specialized document scanner will automate paper handling with things like automatic document feeder and a film scanner may have special carriers for film and popular paper sizes. And a photo scanner may have some corrective software.
