That mobo has
2 x PCIe 3.0 x16/x8
2 x PCIe 3.0 x8
2 x PCIe 2.0 x1

So, should work fine.
1) Is anything really excellent? I can just tell you that is the #1 card that people recommend on the FreeNas forums.
2) Right.
3) Yeah, correct.
4) Yeah, should be full speed, and is reliable according to most everyone on the FreeNas forums.
5) If your case airflow is good, then, no need. You could slap on a bigger heatsink as BonzaiDuck suggested, or stick a fan over the current heatsink.
Server parts have directed airflow, and I have no idea if your case supplies that.

I do recommend you check out other posts with this card on the FreeNAS forums (https://forums.freenas.org/) since you can never have enough opinions on this stuff.
There are just tons more users there that are looking to do the same thing as you.

Great, much thanks Elixer. I'll head over to FreeNas. One last question while I've got you - any problem with these SAS-SATA break outs? Just 2 orders of this + the LSI card (assuming all is well when I check in over at FreeNas):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...fl_title_11?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1AMUYYA3CT6HJ

All set with that (plus any needed thermal mods, of course)?

Will head over to FreeNas to follow up in more detail on this. Appreciate your time, energy, and help!
