What is a good resolution to use on 19" and 22" monitors?

I spend most of the time coding and surfing the 'net.

I'm debating between Samsung 900NF and 1200NF. 1200NF is definitely nice but I wonder if I can really make use of resolutions larger than 1600x1200. I am picky with the crispness of text.

So which resolution do you recommend of 900NF and 1200NF? If resolutions higher than 1600x1200 is too small even on 22" monitor, I might just save up the money and get 900NF.

I have the Viewsonic PF790(19") and use 1152x864x32 for everything. Anything higher and the text gets a little too small for my eyes.

EDIT: I take that back, I just switched to 1280x960x32 and I like it. I looked at 1600x1200, but the text is just too small. I'm sure games would look nice though:D

I use the same settings as Nate on my 19" monitor. It is the perfect blend of desktop space and readability in my opinion.

I just bought a 19" incher for the system I'm about to build. I've sat at 21" monitors and found that, for me, they go over the line. It would be nice to have a 21 or 22 inch screen when watching DVD's in full screen, but for desktop work and web surfing, the 21's make my eyes work too much. Look up, look down, look left, look right. It's just too much screen space when youre up close at a desk. With a 19 inch, I still have to do this a bit. With a 17, my eyes can process the whole screen without dodging around at all. But my new computer's going to have a GeForce 4 Ti4400 in it, so I decided to get a monitor that could show off it's capabilities at 1600x1200.

This doen't help with your question, I know, but its food for thought. Find somewhere you can actually work at a 21 incher for a while and maybe you'll see what I mean.

I had no problems running 1280x960 on a Samsung 755DF (17"). Perhaps I should just attach 2x 755DF to my Matrox G450?

I should've looked for a Samsung booth at Comdex. Oh well. Too late now. :)

I can't think of any stores that got 900NF and 1200NF on display.

i know exactly what you mean. i use to stare at a 21" inch monitor all day at my old job, and it would really be too much for me. 19" is perfect. the thing is, with <19" monitors, you can just scan around with your eyes, but with a 21", you have to literally move your head around to see all of it.

<< A few 15" LCD monitors running at 1600 by 1200 should suffice >>

Where do I find those?

I only know 17"+ LCDs that run UXGA resolution. Those are far above my budget.

I would love to get a Dell laptop with UXGA screen instead, but that's too much for me too.

I run my 900 NF on 1600x1200 most of the time. It seems to be about the perfect size. I want a GF4 and get another 900 NF, that would be nice.

I have a Dell P992 and run it at 1600 x 1200, it takes a couple of days to get used to, but the extra space is great.

running my dell p991 FD trinitron at 1400x1050. used to run it at 1600x1200 but my contacts don't correct astigmatism so i can't run that high and read text . 1400x1050 achieved by haX0ring my detonators, and you can't do that with the latest ones for some reason. which blows. they should really include this resolution, instead of that god-awful 1280x1024, which skews everything.

Would you run a resolution higher than 1600x1200?

Also, does BNC really help? I plan to run it through standard VGA out of Matrox G450.

Eizo F931 21" here, running at 1600x1200x32@100 Hz.

15" - Get a new monitor.
17" - 1024x768
19" - 1280x960 or 1400x1050 depending on ref rate.
21"+ 1600x1200 and up depending on needs.

That all IMO of course :)

I run 1152x864 @ 85Hz on my outdated (7 year old) Iiyama Vision Master 17 (guess what size it is? ;) ). Though I really need to upgrade to a larger monitor. What would you guys suggest for a good 21 or 22 incher for under $1,000 USD?
