Ok Ive got the makings of good backup rig amd 2500+ barton, memory, harddrive, etc..... but my old blazing hot abit nforce 2 mobo gave up the ghost. Basically I'm looking for a good stable mobo with 8xagp, atleast 3xpci slots, sata would be nice but not maditory and not Nforce 2. Oh hopefully under 70.00usd. I know there via kt400,kt600 and kt800 that will work with 462 socket barton and SIS mobos that will work too, but which choice is the best of the bunch? btw Im not much of a overclocker Im looking for quick , cool and STABLE that will be used as a backup / lan party rig. Thanx for any constructive suggestions. Bob S.

What's the objection to NF2? Overall, those held all of the good marbles in the Socket A game. I have had several, and neither SiS nor Via was playing in the same park with the nVidia chip set (I know that the KT-400 and KT-600 weren't competitive -- I had one each of those through here. Never had ocasion to have a KT-800 in here, though). I don't recall whether ALi (ULi now) had a socket A chip set.

Actually, he said not NF2, as per "sata would be nice but not maditory(stet)* and not Nforce 2".

That's why I asked him what the objection was. I happen to have an NF7, plain, the early iteration, still running here, and a DFI NF-II Infinity, and an Asus A7N8X . .

P.S. What the heck is the actual Latin notation for "I left the quoted spelling misspelled", anyway? Is it "ibid"? I don't think so. Per my "*" in the quote.

I'm guessing he had some stability problems with an nForce2 based board and wants to try another chipset....

Well why not nforce 2? well because my old pos mobo Im replacing was abit nf-7s which I disliked intensely. The mobo always ran hot as hell (measured with ir temperature probe the mobo average 140-150f) I could never close the case or I'd have heat crashes winter or summer. The first four months I had that system it was crashing all the time and I was using my old backup rig more a amd 1800+ on a stable ecs k7s5a (wish that mobo work with 2500+) and it wasnt till four months and three bios flashes later did the nf-7s become stable enough to play games and surfing the web for a few hours without locks ups or crashes. The heat issues of the mobo never went away, So Ive got issues with NF-7s and the nforce 2 chipset, please anyone out there with non Nforce 2 mobo suggestions? Please post which of the via or sis mobo would make a fast , COOL and STABLE replacement mobo solutuion. Thanx Bob S.

Sorry, my bad. I guess I was confused by your blaming a mobo, chipset for an apparent air flow problem.

I haven't had it for long but my experience with this Foxconn 748K7AA has been pretty good. I haven't had any stability problems with it yet. I'm running it with an Athlon XP 2700+, an ATI Radeon X800 XL AGP and 1.5 gigs of ram.

Uh no that wasnt the case. With the abit nf 7s I had one side panel 80mm case fan , 80mm fan on the back of the case and 120mm on the bottom of my power supply all sucking heat out my case , I must had a lemon because that mobo was horrible form day one.
