I have a parent on my cell service. It's $10 more a month but ATT sucks so bad, we can't even finish a conversation. So I'm taking my business elsewhere now. She doesn't text, or use internet.

I'm going to sprint probably but they want $30/ month just for cell service for her. It's a bit ridiculous. Is there a better route, the senior plans all seem to be this price. Is a prepaid cell phone ok? Or does it suck too much?

you're complaining about AT&T's cell service and you want to go to sprint?

check out verizon and get a family plan

I'm happy with my Tracfone, but i don't use it alot.
60 minute card costs $20 every 3 months for my use. My phone gets double minutes too, so i get 120 minutes every time.

I live out in the sticks & get a decent signal at home & have only ever had one dropped call here.

I would consider Page Plus. Depending on their usage it can be as cheap as $30/year (that would be 100 minutes every 120 days). The rates for the by minute plans are 100 minutes, $10
416 minutes, $25
1000 minutes, $50
2000 minutes, $80
Each of those except the 2000 minute one is per 120 days. The 2000 minute plan lasts a year. All minutes roll over.

Page Plus uses Verizon's network, and you can use just about any Verizon phone.
You can set up auto billing so it does it all automatically too (though if you want to manage things, you can buy top up cards at online retailers for a discount)

Also consider Virgin Mobile if Sprint's coverage is good enough in your area. And T-mobile has a similar per minute offers, though not quite as cheap as Page Plus

I used to use T-Mobile pre-paid (now on T-Mobile postpaid on my in-laws family plan) and I didn't notice any signal problems but I also live in a big city. The coverage is basically the same, I think some of the roaming partners aren't available for pre-paid but I've only seen it roam when I was driving through Wyoming/South Dakota.

I like T-Mobile pre-paid because although it is a little more expensive up front ($100 for 1000min for 1 year) after the first year you only need $10/year to keep it active.

thanks, anyone try the walmart prepaid stuff? I'm thinking about going the prepaid route also, what's a good free txt option.

second what blinblue posted. that's what we use with our phones. free texting, if she's got wifi there are apps out there that do it i believe. or just pay the text price if they are relatively infrequent.

You may want to check out PlatinumTel ( https://www.platinumtel.com/ ) It's one of the cheapest prepaid options for people who don't talk a lot. It's 5c/min or 2c/text and costs as little as $10 every 3 months (which works out to $3.33/mo). I've been using them for a while now and I'm very happy with the service (they use Sprints network). My biggest complaint is that they don't have a very good phone selection.
