Good read about the PS3 marketing/hyping "strategy"

this is pretty long, however I thought it was a good read. it discusses sony's strategy for marketing the ps3 and how the author thinks that sony is again doing a big lie to the consumers.

if you have some time check it out.

Just to add to the Sony bash, I heard Sony is already anticipating a failure threshold with their cell chips. And if one of the chips fails in the system that would be considered "acceptable".

was that sarcasm?
wasn't this openly disclosed by sony already? that only 7 of the 8 would be activated to improve chip yeild.

Even if you don't like the PSP... it runs emulators now! I prefer mine as a portable SNES!

Right, I think he's saying that if one of the 7 fails, so you now have 6 of the 8, that sony will think that its ok. Like the dead pixel count on the PSP.

thats what the GBA is for. every game on there is basically a SNES port.

Sony is faced with a well-funded, software-intensive opponent who has proven they can have a "triple-A killer app system-seller" at a system launch.

What's that? PDZ? No, that game is not even slated for launch and knowing Rare's track record they will be lucky to get it out in early 2006.

About the Cell SPE thing. It's not at all like the pixel thing in the PSP. Sony is just saying they will use Cell chips with 7 functional SPEs to ensure better yields. Chances are 1 in 5000 chips will have a lousy 8th SPE, but by disabling 1/8 they can ensure better yields overall. If a chip has two bad SPEs they can sell it to the low-end server market as a six-SPE Cell.

I think a lot of people read the whole Cell/SPE thing the wrong way. Lost in translation probably.
