Good quiet fan w/ rpm signal for use on XP-120?

The Thermalright site recommends a panaflo fan, but that one is only a 2 wire fan without rpm sensor. I would prefer to have a fan with an rpm signal. I was thinking of a Nexus but I think it has solid corners and I don't want to mess with modifying that with a dremel tool.

Thanks,

Looks interesting, thanks for the info.

I got an Antec P180 case and I was going to get an extra 120mm TriCool fan for the front of that. I wonder how one of those TriCool fans would work on the XP-120?

I think it would work fine on low. But if you are paying for an extra fan, I would go for the CM fan I linked or a Yate at jabtech although they (yates) are rarely in stock there.

I had the Antec 120mm tri cool fan.

I didn`t like it!!

Just my opinion!

I felt it never displaced enough air!!

I guess I want the lowest rpm/cfm to get the job done. I won't be overclocking much, if at all. The main reason I would go with the XP-120 is to aid in cooling of the heatpipe heatsink on the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium.

I need to find a review of the XP-120 that deals with lower speed fans I suppose, if you know of any pass on a link.

Thanks,
BGC

I think any 120mm w/ around 40-50cfm's will get you the best of both worlds: silence/airflow, even over the A8N's heatpipe HS. If oc'ing I highly recommend RM Clock: actually I recommend it in any situation. With RM, when just browsing/email/office/etc... you can make that p180 dead silent and your temps very low. http://silentpcreview.com/article186-page1.html
Key in on the last page where they talk about 5V'ing the fans and its performance. Pretty impressive.

The people at Silent PC Review are the authority on this.

I would highly recommend Yate Loon. For more quiet operation, Nexus hands down. The Panaflos are still nice, however there is some audible chatter in the 120 and 92mm variants. The Coolermasters are decent but i would sooner recommend the Panaflos even with the chatter.

one question, how much a difference would there be with a nexus fan instead of a Panaflo Medium 120mm (around 68.9CFM and 35db)? Is it only 1-2 degrees? What about the components/mosfet and the heatpipe on the asus a8n-sli premium?

There are two models of the Panaflo 120x38mm "H1" fan, and probably two models of the M1 fan as well, such that one model has neither TACH wire nor monitoring and the other version of the fan does provide those things. As I recall, the "TACH enabled" version has more modest amperage and runs a tad slower.

I think -- if you get the beefier fan and control it from the motherboard or other controller devices, you do better than with the fan with the more modest amperage rating. You can choose your fan-speed, and the mid-range on some of these Panaflos, Deltas and Sunons can be pretty quiet. Sometimes you can find fans that are noisy below 1,400 and above 2,900, but quiet in that middle range.

You should be able to find both versions of the Panaflos at Sidewinder Computers
