Good quality halogen work light

I just got my dad a Work Force 1000 watt halogen work light from Home Depot and I am not impressed with it at all. Where the lights mount to the base, it is really loose. Also, the handle has spot welds on it and they are already broke on one side. I don't mind doing some modifications but just got it out of the box and it is already this bad.

I am thinking about returning it and getting a different one but all the others look very similar. Is there a work light that will hold up without having to spend $100?

Another thought, why don't that make LED work lights?

LED work lights like that would be either expensive (easily $100+) or would put out a lot less light. Or, they'd cheapen it up in some other way, so you'd get terrible efficiency, or else they'd overdrive some cheap LEDs and burn them out after a thousand hours.

Sorry, but that's what you get when you buy cheap products. You get cheap quality.

"Work Force" is a very low budget brand line. Even their "Husky" brand is better quality.

There ARE LED work lights. They don't produce nearly as much light though.

What would be some good brands to look at? I don't mind spending a little more if I get a decent product but $100 would be the absolute max.

I looked at the Utilitech lights which Lowe's carry and they look of similar quality and read several reviews saying the bulbs do not last long. I realize the bulbs not lasting could be due to how they are handling the bulb. I know you are not supposed to touch the bulbs with your bare fingers.

I have a Craftsman light that I picked up on sale - it's not industrial-grade, but it works well enough for my purposes.

Hell, even the $400 units at Grainger are made in China.

If you can't buy it what you want, build it.
Cree XML's are pretty wicked, though they'll require heatsinking.

I've been really happy with my craftsman one. The frame is really well made and highly adjustable. I do wish there was better protection over the glass as I have had it fall and one of the glass pieces shatter.

As always be very careful with halogen bulbs, if you take care of them they'll take care of you.
