I am thinking of building a gaming rig and am wondering if the 500 Watts will be enough. I am also wondering if this 500 watt rating is at optimal temperature, or at normal operating temperature. I am thinking of a DFI-LanParty UT NF4Ultra, Koolance water cooling case, and two NVIDIA 6800's (normal, not GT or Ultra).

Do not buy that PSU if you value your hardware. Get a quality PSU such as Antec, PCP&C, OCZ...

What makes you say that? I have an X-Connect, but I'm looking at an OCZ Modstream 450 now. I need a good review site to go by though...

I kinda wanted something like the X-Connect because it is modular, and the cables are UV sensitive. Is there anything that is like that but better?

Most people will say OCZ Modstream, but I don't know how much better it is, if at all.

My friend has it and it works fine. But his 12 volt does stay around 12.4 which is high considering the max for the 12 volt is 12.6. I would reccomend the antec neopower 480watt. Also a powersupply wattage is not ususally the right rating. Like go to maximum pcs site they gave the x connnect a 4 out of 10 rating because after running 3dmark it started to smell. It also only outputed like 355watts, the rest was wasted power. I will try to find the review and repost. They rated the antec and gave it a 10 out of 10. Also the antec has pfc which monitors the voltages and adjusts them. the x connect is a nice looking piece of crap in my opinon. But my friends does work fine.

Actaully man u should do a search before u post.

that is a link to a post about the psu.

The x connect is a generic piece of garbage. I wouldn't power my grandma's computer with one.

If you have two PCI-Express cards, dosen't that mean that you have to have two PCI-Express power connectors? I thought that with the X-Connect you could buy a second PCI-Express cable.

I'm rarely impressed by a PSU, but after much debating and turmoil, I ended up getting the Tagan 480w PSU. I have to say that so far I am HIGHLY impressed. The 12v rail is dead on, 24-pin ATX connector and an adaptor for 20-pin, 2 SATA cables, ultra quiet and efficient PSU fans, gold leads in the molex, and lots of nice little features. Two thumbs up from me.

Maximum PC gave the x connect a rating of 4 IIRC. They had a fairly comprehensive review of a few different ones, and their favorite was the Antec neopower 480. I've always used antec power supplies, so I'd have to agree. They gave it a 10.

This review thought it was alright.

Buy what ya like... I'm telling you for a fact that it's junk. Any of the old timers around here will tell you the same thing.

Someone mentioned before on a different thread that the reviewer was not supposed to test that power supply. It was only supposed to be looked at, not tested.

I just noticed it in your sig... You have that Ultra X PSU.

Just because you wasted your own money on that PSU, don't try to get other people to do the same thing. That's just not rite man.

I have found around 10 reviews that like/love it. I actually have one, I have no problems. What do you have to back up your claim that's it's garbage, besides an unjustifed Maximun PC review?

Edit: And just because your jealous of something you don't have, doesn't give you the right to bash it. :p

Dude, everyone here said it's crap. I'm, not jealous of that POS PSU. I have a True550. I'm done with this thread. You're just trolling.

Go look at the other threads, it's a good PSU that got a bad rep off of a BS review.

From the above link: "Ultra-X (yes, the pretty looking ones, they are really rebranded powmax!!!)"

There are a lot of threads that talk about this. Many say the above, but some have presented strong arguments that this is not the case. What is really true, I don't know.

Here is a thread about the ultra-x: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=27&threadid=1483898 You'll find tons of yes it is, no it isn't.

There are FAR too many threads about this PSU already. Please, use the search button in the future.

Second, you're well over what you need on wattage. The system you're building isn't all that high-power, despite what you will hear from the "omfg U NEED 6000W PSU 4 SLI!" crowd. You should be able to get away with even a quality 350W PSU, unless you're cramming 10 HDDs in there.

Lastly, look through the older threads about the X-Connect. Also, check up on the other PSUs mentioned here (Neo Power, modstream if you want modular) and decide for yourself who gets your money.
