Good PSU?

I'm building a new computer and I'm not sure what power supply to get.
If I had no budget, I would just go and order an Antec True 430watt, but I'm not so lucky.
In the past, I have always used generic PSU's and never had any problems.... but I've had friends who's power supplies literally blew up, smoke streaming out of the back... not pretty.
So my question is, are there reliable power supplies out there for less than $50?
I will be buying something in the 350watt range.

BTW, my new comp will include an Epox 8rda+ MOBO, a Barton 2500+ proc, and a WD 800JB hard drive... still picking the other components.

I am going to be building a computer pretty close to the same as you and I am thinking of the getting Antec Sonata that comes with a 380W True Power PSU. These PS are well respected and from what I hear the Sonata case is also supposed to be pretty decent.

Here is the Antec Sonata

Antec,Enermax,Sparkle,Enhance etc take your pick, they are all good PSUs.Even Chieftec PSUs are good quality 🙂.

🙂

Hey, thanks for the tips.
I'll look around for the best prices on those brands.
Also, I'd be interested in hearing whether many people have problems with cheap PSU's burning up. I don't mean getting bad voltage regulation, but actually frying with smoke and physical damage.
