i think its time to take advantage of the backwards-compatibility on my 60GB PS3. I hardly played many PS2 games, even though I bought a PS2 way back at launch lol

I want games that have stellar storytelling (e.g, MGS, FFX)

So far I am planning to get these games that I have not played yet:

-God of War (I & II)
-Chrono Cross
-Shadow of Colossus

can't really think of much else

Ratchet and Clank series -- I've only played 2 (Going Commando) but it's a lot of fun.

JRPGs? There are piles, including Final Fantasy X, XII; XenoSaga 1-3; Persona 3 FES & 4; Ar Tonelico .....................

If you want story telling, get MGS3: Subsistence, Persona 3 FES, Persona 4..

great action games...Resident Evil 4, Prince of Persia Sands of Time

Shadow of the Collosus is a must..and consider Ico as well. It is from the same developer.

There are many more but those should keep you busy a while.

What genre of games are you interested in?

The PS2 offers some of the best games ever in each respective genre, it really would be easy to have a reccomendation list running into the 100s of titles.

I saw that you had Chrono Cross listed, I assume you are a fan of Chrono Trigger? In all honesty, Chrono Cross was a bitter let down for fans of the first overall(without exception based on what I have seen, but there is always an exception somewhere). If you are looking for old school turn based RPGs DragonQuest8 is hands down the best on the system IMO.

You have Shadow of Colossus listed, but not Ico, or have you already played that? If you haven't, play through Ico first.

There are no good PS2 games, you don't need BC! :p

Shadow of the Colossus
Ico
Jak and Daxter series
Twisted Metal Black
Burnout: Takedown (yeah, there are newer Burnout games, but I personally think Takedown is the best of the Burnout series, followed closely by Revenge, and then Paradise)
Sly Cooper series
Bully
Odin Sphere
Maximo vs. Army of Zin
Black (Criterion needs to make a godamned sequel already!)
Tony Hawk 2 (still the best of the TH series)
Rez
Yakuza

FF4 and Chrono Trigger.

FF5&6

I played through those recently on my PS3 with my kids, for the money you would be hard pressed to find a better gaming value IMO.

NO! I love these games too but the performance on these ports is atrocious
If you have a GBA or DS get them there instead.

gersson speaks the MFing truth!! The DS ports have prettier graphics and a lot of extras too. Played FF 3,4, and am currently playing 5 this way. However, if you don't have a DS, the PS versions are not that bad in comparison (I have both versions).

I play mostly rpg's and fighting games, so I can toss out some of my favorite rpg's, since they *usually* have a pretty good story.

Shadowhearts
Shadowhearts Covenant (best of the trilogy)
The 3rd Shadowhearts game, From the New World, is ok. Its certainly the most polished gameplay wise, but the story isn't as good, so I don't recommend it as much (and doesn't feature the same main character as the first 2, so it is skippable if neccesary)

(or was that supposed to be Shadow Hearts instead of Shadowhearts? You'd think I'd actually know, since Covenant is one of my favorite games ever)

Xenosaga 1-3

Ar Tonelico 1 (the second game is ok, but it has a game crashing bug, which may or may not affect you, so it's harder to recommend it)

For other Gust games (imported by Nis), you have the Atelier Iris (1-3) and Mana Khemia (1-2) that are good as well. Of those 5, Atelier Iris 3 is the weakest link, although not a terrible game.

I own Suikoden 3-5, but have only played 4 and 5. 4 was ok, if nothing remarkable. 5 was pretty good though. (I'm assuming I'm correct on the numbering system here. Don't have the games in front of me, so I won't swear to it)

Shin Megumi Tensei - Persona 3 and Persona 4 are must own, imo. The other Shin Megumi Tensei games, like Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, Devil Summoner 1 and 2, all have good stories. But, the game play is a mixed bag. I still would recommend them, but Persona 3 and 4 certainly were the most complete packages, including story and gameplay.
