Good PS2 Games for an Adult

Just picked up a PS2 for the more kid friendly titles and was wondering if there were any good games for someone coming from an Xbox. My favorite games on the xbox were Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider, and the Need for Speed series. Never got into the whole halo thing, seemed like level after level of killing aliens with nothing else. I have heard Killzone was fun, what about the SOCOM series? I am sure this had been asked a million times before years ago but I did not find any relevant post. Thanks
