Can you recommend a good program to get a stock quote ticker on the desktop?
Preferably it should be realtime (but it mustn't).
Oh and it should run under NT4.0
The best would be one that docks in the task-bar or just above the task-bar...

Microsoft has a free plug-in that uses "active desktop" and it's a Bloomberg Stock Quote and News Streamer.

It's part of the Web Accessories

I wonder why E*Trade doesn't have something like this (with Realtime Quotes).

I downloaded MagicTicker 3.1.2
I'm quite happy with it.
What I don't like:
1. You don't have a clear list of stocks that get polled (you just can add or remove them by typing them in).
2. The font is rather LARGE
3. It's not Realtime

Otherwise I'm quite happy with it.

coolVariable... If you have an active account with any of the online brokers, they will have a "real-time" quote engine. It might not be a "streamer" but it will be live (not 20 minute delay). As for streamers, I found the Datek was the nicest yet simple (but only if you have an account).

If you need this for general interest or lookup, almost any streamer will work (even if it's on delay). However, if you are doing "day-trades" then you should subscribe to a serious "streamer/info" service! The down side is that the real good ones with "true Level-2" access and D-Link support cost about $200 per month (I was paying $1000 for 6 months). Last year that is all I did all day at home. The "key" is i n f o r m a t i o n!

DocDoo: No I will just (mainly) use it for general interest. I'm not much of a day-trader (I tried it and failed miserably. I do much better if I invest on the long term ;) )
I just thought it would be nice to have a realtime ticker but as I said it's not a must.
I'm a customer with E*Trade and I know they offer realtime-quotes but they don't offer a ticker.
Too bad...
