I am currently dealing with a user named "myztikal47" to buy the following laptop:

Pentium3 500 CPU
128MB PC100 RAM
Built-in 56k
Will Include Realport 10/100 Network Adapter valued at $90
TV-Out
Monitor Out
1USB Port
1PS2 port
1 Serial port
1 Paralell port
24x CDROM
6GB HD
14.1" Screen, with 1 very un-noticable dead pixel
8mb ATI video card
Floppy
Built In speakers
Touchpad
Lithium Ion battery
AC adapter
OS is whatever you want
Condition is very good
Dell Carrying case
Svideo to RCA cable
Removable CDROM, battery, and HD on this thing

The initial warantee has expired but the extended warantee is in place, although I don't know whether he will be able to transfer it. He wants 1050, which doesn't seem bad, because it is gameworthy and has a nice screen. What do you gurus think?

Not too bad, but I'd say still too expensive for a 500MHz CPU (plus it's a used laptop). If you can wait a little while, Athlon and Duron laptops are hitting the streets and are looking very attractive and very inexpensive. Personally, I wouldn't get it.

My two cents... good luck man.

Well, I bought a laptop similar to the one you are considering about a month ago for $1100 shipped. Here the specs from my Compaq Armada M700.

Pentium 3 500 CPU
128MB PC100 RAM(64mb built in, 1 64mb dimm, 576 max total)
Built-in 56k and 10/100 NIC
TV-Out
Monitor Out
1USB Port
1PS2 port
1 Serial port
1 Paralell port
4x DVD rom drive
12GB HD
14.1" TFT XGA Screen
8mb ATI mobility Rage Pro video card
Floppy(swappable w/DVD rom drive)
Built In speakers
Pointer Stick
Lithium Ion battery
AC adapter
1.2" thin, just about 5lbs with floppy in, just over 5lbs w/DVD drive in.
It still has about 2.5 years left on the 3 year Compaq warranty.

"Wow that is good, did you get it from compaq?"

No, I bought it in the FS/T forums here at AT.
