Dell has the the 2405fpw on sale for $879.20. How does this compare with earlier coupon usage this summer? I remember seeing some people bought it for under $800.

I got mine for $780 shipped, and it did at one point get down to ~$750 shipped. Dunno if you'll see prices that low again, though, considering demand for them has remained fairly high.

Remember, Dell charge Tax on that.
Check Dell Authorized distributor who doesn't charge tax.

I got 3 for $2,723.12 including shipping.

at one point i think it was at a cool $700. I know people have gotten them for that.

i can afford to wait since im using a 2005fpw currently and will have to do a sell/swap anyway to get my 2405. i bought my 2005 before the 2405 was released.. :(

but if you need one right now, and dont have something nice like the 2005fpw, i'd go for the $880 price myself.

you are paying about $180 over what the average deal go-er paid, but big deal..

not a big deal to me anyway. /shrug
im sure it is to the anal or those who just dont have much extra income.
i dont like to get ripped off either, but i dont think $880 is a ripoff.

if they dont have another sale soon, i'll purchase mine at 880 this summer if its still at that price.
besides, some of the 2405s had technical issues, i dont think they do now, but it never hurts until they totally iron out any production issues which is something that never ends (which i know, working at one of the worlds largest manufacturing companies and working directly with manufacturing processes).

They'll prob have a firesale on the 2405s and the new 2407s to generate interest +recoup their R&D costs.

Im starting to wonder if Dell doesnt offer a lot of sales on new product releases to get to the point of turning a profit on a given product ASAP.
It would be smart, you are losing future sales but you are ensuring each product launch is successful and paying its own bills (manufacturing, R&D) first, while also reducing the amount of time that investors have to wait to see a profit.. on the company as a whole if they do this with every product they sell.

It comes out even in the end, discount and steal future sales (which even that is a maybe), or generate a huge buzz by getting the product out there, while simultaneously paying the bills the product generated in the first place.

Its how I'd do business if I had the warchest that Dell has.
