try the iriver slim-x. It's got some of the highest ratings from consumers and it's better than the rio volt because it's so much smaller. Check out the reviews cnet review

Personally, I would VERY HIGHLY recomment the Napa MCD380 or the Compaq iPaq Pm-1, which are actually the same unit, only rebranded.

Advantages:
- Very cheap (got mine for 135CDN, which is about 85USD)
- 8min shock protection
-Slightly larger than an MD (4"x4"x1")
- cheap media (uses 200mb discs)
-LCD remote control
-rechargable batteries
-nice headphones
-crystal clear sound.

I got the Napa one about 3 weeks ago and I am very pleased with it. The sound quality is suprisingly clear, headphones are good, the only problem I have is that there is ghosting on the LCD screen if its exposed to cold for too long (like after walking in -5°C temperatures for 10 mins), but other than that, great unit.

However, if you have plenty of money, get the SlimX, since it is undoubtedly the best one out there.

bump for the day people... :)

I'd prefer full-sized CD's.

I've looked at the IRiver, but I don't know if I can convince myself to pay $200. ;)

Any other experiences??

23 hours of play time on that IRiver...that's impressive!

Anyone know how well the sound quality would be if you played these through a cassete adapter for a car cassette deck?

In that case, I guess you'll want to check out RioVolt SP250. Even though its listed as 180 on their sight, you'll be able to find it for about 150 if you check out pricegrabber.
