I'm spending the night at an LAX airport hotel for an early flight out and am looking for a good place for dinner. I am open to pretty much anything but it needs to be under $35 after tip for one person.

Any recommendations?

I went with a 5 mile radius, since he'll likely be using a taxi, you can narrow the search to much smaller.

I wouldn't send anyone to a place I've never been that is 5 miles east of LAX.

Try north Manhattan Beach or Marina del Rey. Just head south on Sepulveda. Lots of great restaurants in the beach communities in the South Bay area. Marina del Rey is west and slightly north.

Thanks. Thats why I was having a problem with the various search sites - they were all crowded with places to the east without me knowing more about good neighborhood options and I really don't feel like dealing with the eastern optinos

here are recs:

Pann's Diner - corn beef hash, chicken n waffles, fried chicken, country fried steak, etc.
Bludso's BBQ (compton) - probably the best SoCal has to offer in terms of low/slow TX style bbq
Coni Seafood (inglewood) - legit Mexican seafood - dude gets all his fish fresh from MX. think swordfish tacos. giant grilled fish, etc.

there's always In n Out, and if you have access to the tom bradley terminal ink.sack is legitimately good.

anything in particular you want?

Interesting. Bludso's is a bit far away from where I am wanting to stay but Coni looks promising

I don't really get the hype about In n Out but I do have it occasionally on my somewhat frequent trips out here.

I'd likely avoid Asian and Middle Eastern food just because there are some very good places back home that do that. Mexican is likely on the avoid list as well as we always go out for Mexican for lunch at our office out here and there is always Taco Bell back home for real authentic mexican food :)awe:). Mexican seafood sounds good though. Maybe a slight preference for seafood since we have crappy seafood options in Michigan

Nude Nudes

Half mile up Sepulveda, on the left.

Ha. Does that name show up on the receipt? I got some sideways glances from 'Strip Burger' in las vegas so I don't think 'Nudes Nudes' would be ok on my expense report

Compton and Inglewood?

NO!

If you don't want to go far there are a handful of restaurants in Marina Del Rey. I've eaten at them all and had mixed results. I wish I could remember the names of the ones I liked but I'm sure someone who lives there now can give you a solid recommendation.

Unfortunately, Nude Nudes and the Vagninas 'R Us sign are now only a treasured memory of LA history.

Yeah in case you haven't figured it out people are fucking with you. I once made a coworker cry just by driving down some back alley in Inglewood. Seriously don't let these fools trick you into going into the ghetto.

Protip: Skidrow is not good for food either.

Best place to eat in LA imho is Original Tommy's World Famous Hamburgers, as much as I love In N Out and a bunch of actual sit down spots in LA. Tommy's has a place in my heart that nothing could ever take the place of. They have the best chili cheese fries on the planet bar none.
