Crutchfield has been in business for over 27 years, so they've got the service aspect down. It's not the greatest for price, but you get freebies (wiring harness and custom installation instructions) and good service from a repeatable company.

Right on, NightFlyer!

DON'T order from crutchfield.com

they have horrible prices, you will end up paying almost twice as much for the product.

caraudioworld.com has the best prices i've seen on the net.

uscaraudio.com also has the best prices i've seen on the net.

Hmmn, unauthorized Alpine dealers on the net! And their prices still don't look any better than Crutchfield. I wonder what Alpine thinks of that?

EDIT:

OK, the prices are a little cheaper, but what if something goes wrong?

Free return shipping?

Lifetime (or any) technical support?

Free wiring harness for your car?

crutchfield's prices are the same as retail stores such as cartoys, goodguys, and magnolia hi-fi etc.
but they give you a wiring harness for free, its 20 bucks if you buy it from a retail store. if you have never installed car audio before, crutchfield is very newbie friendly with their customs instructions. they have good customer service.

then again, you get free installation in a retail store, but you would have to pay for the harness. so pick your poison

Thanks for the links guys.

Amazingly, Crutchfield doesn't have the head unit i'm looking for, the pioneer premire DEH-P740MP.

Many other sites are showing out of stock as well, so i'm thinking it's really new, or in high demand.

I'm replacing an older head unit (~1998) that is installed non-traditionally because it's for a 68 Ford. What exaclty is this wiring harness?

Well I don't know what the stereo wiring looks like on a 68 Ford - but it basically connects the wires on the back of the head unit to the wires of the car easily. (It has a plastic plug that hooks up to the plug in the car) It makes it a lot easier than having to strip the wires and crimp them together. (Easy to mess something up)

Connectors on each end.... Looks like I'll be doing it the hard way. :(
