going with my friends and he wants to go to Dallas steak house, but we always go there. I don't even like their food and the tequila they put in drinks is SO ROUGH.

criteria is atleast decent food (no asian food) and under $20 a plate for dinner in Manhattan, thanks in advance.

Under $20 in NYC?

Man...can you narrow it down to a particular part?

EDIT: Are you implying that asian food /= decent food? 😉

Trattoria Tricolore has the BEST italian food i've ever had.... Right off Times Square and it came to around $20/person 🙂

Sotto Cinque is a good italian joint on the UES (2nd ave between 85 and 86). Pasta dishes are under $10 and the food is quite good.

I realize that, can you be more specific? westside, eastside, financial district, soho, tribeca, village, etc. etc.?

I'm open to anywhere that is relatively close to the subway and don;t run the risk of getting mugged.

Manhattan's very safe. I wouldn't worry about getting mugged.

Gray's Papaya

You gotta love that silly sign they have outside the place. I forget what it says exactly but I remember something like, "loving the saline pink flesh of our hotdogs...". Something like that anyways. Their hotdogs suck btw.. Nathans > Gray's Papaya.

I also suggest trying out a place in Little Italy. I'm sure you can find something in your price range.
