My dad slipped and damaged his Nikon D70's camera lens; he said it is now stuck midway.

Model is: AF-S Nikkor 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5G ED D-X

Can anyone recommend reputable, reasonably priced place to get it fixed?

Or is it just cheaper to buy a new lens? (if so, where? - he said he would ideally like a 28-200 Zoom lens if it isn't too expensive)

EDIT: how much should repair cost? And what's a reasonable price for a brand new lens?

I'm not familiar with how Nikon service works. With Canon I'd just send it back to Canon to fix. I would imagine that you can do that with the Nikon stuff too. (No...not send it to Canon, send it to Nikon :p)

you can send it to Nikon for repair, or to a third party like Keh.com. The only DX lens that I could find in Keh.com's online repair quote wizard was the 12-24mm, so I would call them before blindly sending it in. the Nikon repair will obviously be perfect (repair, clean, check, calibrate, adjust, etc.), though it may take a while.

Yeah send it back... They check out the damage then give you a price quote. If you aren't happy with the quote, you can decline the repairs and they'll ship it back.
