Good place to get new pool cues <$100 OL or B&M ?

I kinda chuckle at the guys that walk into a bar with their own cue sticks... but there seem to be a LOT of people that do it... Anyways free bump...

You're kind fo screwed looking for a decent cue under $100...I suggest Action or Players in that price range. Might be able to find a Dufferin or Lucasi. Double your budget and get a Joss, Viking, or McDermott.

If you are looking to buy online they have mcdermotts at seyberts for a little bit over 100. You won't get anything fancy but it will be way better than a cue you can get a kmart. and you wont be paying the suggested retail as you would at your local billiard store.

Its for my son who has been playing for only a little while now so I figured 70 bucks was plenty. His friend has a players that seems like a decent cue for the price.

Malis are a good stick for around $100+. No less than that though.

Meucci are the most popular because they have a lot of flex and therefore you can put a lot of English on the cue ball. I like them, but you could get one for $150 that has a quick release, but no filigree or in lays (basically one that looks like a house stick).

Anything less than $100 and you might as well go to Academy and buy a 20-30 stick. They can be nice too if you sand it down a bit and apply finisher (like a fine coating of mineral oil) to the stick. That is what I did to my first pool cue. You have to know what you are doing though, otherwise you will warp it.

And those people laugh even harder at the people using the bent bar cues. You might as well not play at all with some of the cues I've seen. I've been to maybe 2 pool halls where the cue's were even usable.
Plus, you will always be better and more consistent using the same cue. If you only play once a year, then sure you dont need your own cue. But if you try to play often and improve your game, you have to buy your own.
and people who walk into a bar with a cue are most likely there to play in a league, where most of the players also have their own cues.
I used to play with my pool stick when it is a real tourney and play with the bar stick if it was for fun. It is great when the guys who come with their sticks start to watch you to see if your any good. Even better when they ask for a game. Then you just own up with a bar pool cue.
Honestly though, if you have to ask, just go for a stick at Academy and sand it down and clean it yourself. Most good players can play with a regular bar stick with the right ounces, and a tip finisher to roughen the tip. Good player use natural roll and control rather than crazy English, unless they are forced to, to win anyways.
Dufferin has some decent cues in the under 100 dollar range.

$100 will get you a carbon fiber one at Wal-Mart. Spend a few more for a McDermott or Joss.

go to a specialy store and play with everyone in your price range.

you could always get a "sneaky pete", some of them play very nice and aren't expensive. They are basically a nice 2-piece cue that looks like a bar cue.

Sneaky Pete Mali's & Meucci are nice and around 150.
You can usually get them with uniloc too. So it will be cleaner and easier than a thread screw design.
