Good place to buy with a large selection?

16.5 seems more standard... It needs to fit in here (right behind the chair). Eventually (pipe dream) I want to put a 30" widescreen LCD in the upper compartment. 😀

TIA

What size mobo does it need to fit? There are plenty of microATX cases of less than 15.5", almost none to fit a full sized ATX mobo... Have you considered going horizontal?

When you say almost none do you mean none? 🙁

It's a regular ATX board...

The stupid compartment has 16" clearance.

I wonder if the 16.2" cases I've seen have 'feet' I can remove.

How about horizontal - a desktop case like the Antec Overture? There are less glitzy ones for much less than the Overture costs.
. The Suntek 9511 http://suntekgroup.com/stk9511.htm or 9311 are the shortest I know of but I don't know where you can buy one - I've froogled with no success - you may have to call Suntek directly to find out where to buy or maybe you can buy direct - CompUSA used to carry them. And there are other clearance issues with these cases - check the pix carefully (RAM or CPU HSF can interfere with drive bays, etc.). Someone else here found another short one on newegg, but I've forgotten what it was - do a search in the GH and C&C sections on short cases and see what comes up - may have to search the archived postings as I don't remember how long ago it was.

Linkworld A312-C2211 or Enlight 7101 - definitely need to look at CPU/HSF clearance. I like the Thermal Integration V77L for a decent low-pro HSF - needs a fan mate or mobo speed control to cut down the noise. All at newegg. Many others are listed in one way or another as ATX but if you look at the pix of the backsides, only 4 card slots - mATX...

A long long time ago, Inwin used to sell a full ATX case called the A500 midtower, which has the PSU mounted vertically to the left of the CPU location. Because of that, the case is only 15.7" tall.

Problem with a PSU mounted in that orientation is that the heatsink for your CPU can't be very tall, and the case is a bit cramped.

Not sure where to buy that case these days since it has been long discontinued, but when I Googled it quite a few came up.

EDIT: A search on Newegg for "Mini Tower ATX" showed a lot of short cases with PSU orientation just like the InWin A500. Maybe that will work.

I agree that a horizontal desktop type case might be an option worth exploring.

HTH.

Yeah, I did a mini tower atx search on newegg too before I saw you did too. example of power supply orientation you were talking about
