Good place to buy mobo/cpu combo...

Hi, I live in Northern California and I'm very interested in upgrading my whole computer. The only good place to buy that kind of stuff here that I know of is Fry's electronics. I know they don't have the best customer service but it appears that they have some pretty good prices like: Athlon XP 1700 boxed CPU with ECS K7S5A mobo all for $139. Although Fry's is cheap it's also about a good 1 hour drive from my place. It's been a while since I last shopped for a new computer so can anyone recommend some places to get hardware like mobos etc for really cheap? Much appreciated

Richard

You cannot go wrong with Newegg

If you were looking to order a mobo/cpu combo, I would suggest MWave. You can order a mobo, cpu, and ram combo and they will test it out for you for $9.

Both places have great customer service.

Just wait til an even more awesome deal from Fry's and drive there.

Also ask them for a 10% discount, they might give it to you!

Having bought a couple of combos from Mwave, I'll second the above quote.

True - plugging a CPU (and fan) and memory into a mobo isn't rocket science. What you HAVE bought is the assurance that everything was working - and working TOGETHER - when it left the vendor. When something glitches, this eliminates a lot of the finger pointing.

What the $9 buys is the assurance that you just bought known working parts. It's money well spent.
