Good place to buy diamond earrings?

spidey07

I'm a little weary of buying jewelry on the internet (mainly because I can't see it first)

Are there any good reliable places with top quality and a good price? I'm looking for about 1.5 ct total weight.

in a heartbeat.... bluenile.

my husband has bought several things from them (including my engagement ring) and they are amazing!
EDIT: what a lucky woman... diamond earrings are classic

Good quality/color?

I've heard a lot about that place. Just don't want to wind up with poor quality. I'm a stickler when it comes to jewelry.

They have a 30 day no questions asked return policy, expect this month. I believe all purchases made now are returnable until the middle of January.

Well that is reassuring.

I'll give it a shot and see how the prices are.

Better than anything you'd find off-line.

But... that'll be pretty pricey. I'm sure you know that though.

Edit: Looks like about $8000 for a good set

Thats nearly impossible. You would be hardpresed to get a single .75 carat diamond for $1000. 2 of them is a dream. 🙁 You can get maybe get moissanite for that.

i was looking at bluenile and saw some really nice pendents that i would want to get for someone for Christmas.. but i was hoping for something in the $30 range shipped. know of any other good places?

Bought my ex-wife her engagement ring at Blue Nile - fantastic customer service, fantastic documentation on the diamonds, fantastic educational help on the site.

Basically, they are the on-line branch of at least two large diamond dealers - one in New York (I know because my stone was shipped from there to Blue Nile's workshop for fitting onto the ring). Thus their stones are the same that you would look at in NYs diamond district - except that their reports and numbers on the stones actually make it far easier to buy a diamond (for many of us, myself included) than seeing it in person. Even with a loupe, could you travel to 2-4 dealers, look at stones, and try to compare them visually - and be accurate about it? Nope, I would rather see the evaluation reports, look at the table and cut numbers, and then figure out what trade-offs I wanted to make (and their slider-based user interface is THE best way to do this). And their prices are VERY good...

Anyway, the diamond was fantastic - probably the only thing about that relationship that deserves that word...

Future Shock

the prices were never that great when we went. In fact, they offered me 1.5x the price I paid at Blue Nile to trade in her diamond for a new one.

Check some of your locally owned jewelry stores. They usually have a nice selection and can save you money compared to if you decided to buy from a chain. Blue Nile is definitely nice quality and I would rate them over any retail chain, but they also are more expensive than some local dealers would be.

goodoldgold.com and whiteflash.com

I bought the engagement ring from whiteflash because they are located in Houston. Judging by the people's reaction on the pricescope forums, both of these places are very trustworthy. A $2k budget may be tough to stay under with their diamonds though.

For loose diamonds, I've found Union Diamond cheaper than BlueNile for equivalent quality. However, not so sure about their earring selections.

If you look through your yellow pages, you may find a public wholesale dealer (usually around 10% markup, instead of most jeweler's %80-150 markup). These guys usually work with all the major jewelers, and can get you damn near anything that isn't custom made for the chains, i.e. Zales, Helzberg, etc.

As an aside, you may be able to get up to .8CTW earrings for $2k, if you're shopping quality diamonds....

Bluenile is good for jewelry.

I use dirtcheapdiamonds for loose diamonds. Unbelievable service and prices. Both stones I bought from them appraised for over 2x what I paid. Last one was a gorgeous IF F color emerald cut....had to get it cause my wife lost her engagement ring (thank god for insurance). Bought the stone and had it set locally...

So how much you got on order there right now? 😉

There is also Dirt Cheap which has slightly better prices than BlueNile the last time I checked. The inventory is very similar. I've seen the same diamonds listed at both.
