Good Photo Manipulation Program?

Please recommend a good photo manipulation program. I have used Adobe Photoshop 5.0 but is seems a little bloated for my needs, is there anything else out there that you like?
 
I have used Many Photo editing apps including PhotoShop 6, PaintShop Pro and some others but Corel's PhotoPaint is my favorite by far. It is very powerful yet easily mastered. BTW, Corel is giving away free versions of PhotoPaint 9 for Linux. So for those of you who are not motivated enought to move over to the linux platform, there is a very good reason!
