I haven't got the money for my new computer with a firewire port yet. :( However my MiniDV camera is coming soon and I need something with a firewire interface! So I want to know what the best (hopefully cheap) FireWire card there is out there.

I am currently looking at this Koutech model but I don't know anything about how good they are.

Thank you!

If it is OHCI compatible, that is about all you need. In XP, the drivers are included. The only issues I have seen reported with 1394 is when Analog capture card includes it AND there is other ports on the mobo. In that case, the mobo port may have some issues with the software for the capture card.

there are some real cheapo cards on Pricewatch, including a Lucent card for $10 shipped. Now I don't know how reputable the vendors are (Mr.Tech not on ResellerRatings, and GearXS has mixed reviews), but $10 shipped is better than $22 shipped on the Koutech above. Would anyone take a chance on this card, or just go with a known commodity like NewEgg?
