Good PC gamepad with analog sticks for use with GTA: San Andreas?

My PS2 controller that I tried using with the Radio Shack PS2 to USB adapter is too quirky...never works right. Guess I'll have to go and buy a gamepad. I need one with a solid D-pad (would like to use with fighters in emu) and good analog for games like GTA: San Andreas.

The last gamepad I bought was a sidewinder gamepad. Good pad but no analog sticks.

Anyone reccommend anything? Particularly one that Best Buy carries as I want to pick a controller up after work and go carjack and rob someone when I get home.

Only brands I remember were decent were gravis and saitek... the pc brand controllers always looked so non-ergonomic and goofy looking.

pc controllers suck in general. but gravis saitek and logitech have gotten better recently. they most of their gamepads on display at best buy. just get the one that feels sturdiest.
i have a logitech PS style controller and it is great.
but please, don't buy from best buy f you can help it.

IMO the best gamepad for PC is the cordless Logitech Wingman.

The version I got(older)
http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/sear...h__cat_id--492,prod_id--258321634.html

The newer version:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produ...details/US/EN,CRID=2225,CONTENTID=9069

Been using mine for years. Its seen alot of Tony Hawk 3 6,000,000+ combos and if your into Tony Hawk thats alot of harsh punishment. Played through GTA 3 and Vice City with it and works great on flying Helicopters in Desert Combat. I would recommend getting some rechargables for it. Although you get roughly 50 hours of use out of it with batteries.

BTW it has like a 20-30 foot distance as I can change music with Winamp using it and me in the next room.

I use the Saitek P880 myself. I like it and I like the feel of the pad and how the analog sticks feel. I didn't like how flimsy the old logitech analog sticks felt but the new one posted above is much better.

I'm only getting it from Worst Buy because I got some gift cards I need to use up.

1. Buy Xbox controller from Worst Buy
2. Buy an adapter online (Ebay) for $7 shipped
3. ....
4. Profit!

Because yeah, PC gamepads usually suck. If you are used to GTA from the PS2, there are plenty of PS2-style gamepads, but I'm a fan of the Xbox controller for most games.

Darn, Worst Buy didn't have the cordless version, just the corded one for 32.99 :(. Well since its gift cards, no biggy... is the corded version as good as the cordless though? (besides the obvious fact its cordless).

Wow, finally a well working gamepad... works PERFECTLY with GTA San Andreas and MVP Baseball so far. Really impressed. I originally had a ps2 to usb adapter from radio shack with a dual shock ps2 controller but that never really worked well at all. This feels pretty much like a ps2 controller.

Btw to the people complaining about GTA being basically unplayable because of bugs...I'm not experiencing anything unusual except for a weird ATI graphics error that locked up my computer for a few secs and then went back to normal. Weird...

Yeah... you won't trip on the invisible wire with the corded one.

stay away from Logitech at all costs !!!

I bought a controller once and did a lot of research...Logitech makes good mice...but horrible controllers !

Get the Saitek P880 ! Possible BB doesnt have this one tho.

yeah this controller rocks...pllayed POP2 with it and it's like another gaming dimension :)

However i have no freaking clue how you can play GTA:VC (or MTA:VC, the multiplayer mod for it) with a controller without going insane....maybe i'd need to get used to it....but there i'd rather use mouse and keys

I use keyboard and mouse while outside a car, plane, helicopter, ect but once I get into a car or whatever I change over to controller. It's much easier.

I agree with the switching over for driving.

But isn't this annoying after a while going into the control settings every couple of minutes?.......

I use the logitech rumblepad II which has the same layout as the PS2 controller but I am having probs with it. I am so used to playing GTA:SA on the PS2 that I keep hitting the wrong buttons on the logitech. I can remap most of the buttons to emulate the PS2 controls but the D control wont work, it just acts as one of the analog controls. WTF? The PC version wont let me map the D control. Also, no force feedback in the PC version? Whats up with that?

Just play it on the PS2. The blurry TV screen will hope tone down the shock of how terrible the graphics are.
