title says it all, all i want is redundancy, average speed, and max storage capacity, so i'm looking to build an 8 drive raid 5 array made up of seagate ATA IV drives.
all i can find on ebay is the 3ware 5800 8 port hardware based raid card for ~$45, but this card does not do raid 5 it only does 0, 1, and 10
are there any other 32bit versions of this card or any other that can have 8 drives and do raid 5 even if its software based
here is the setup i'm building:
AXP mobile 1500+ oced to 200X6, 7, or 8 (waiting on the chip)
512mb of pc3200
uATX mb or atx nforce2 with pci and agp lock
integrated lan
cheapo graphics- probably my old voodoo banshee
atx case
this will be primarily an ftp/filerserver so i can access files from home at work and upload them the same way
