Good Pair for i5 750?

I have an i5 750 2.66 GHz and wondering what a good video card to pair it with. I currently have an 8800 GTS 640 MB card, good enough?

It's a give away system, gaming wise, Minecraft for sure and whatever else a 9 year old boy might play.

8800GTS 640MB is a card from 2006/2007...

I think a GTX 750 would be pretty OK as an upgrade, it's much faster and works better with current games, power draw is low and the price is around $100, much lower than this and you risk getting something as slow or slower, but something like a r7 240 should already be a better card overall compared to the 8800GTS.

GTX 750 or R7 250X would both be good if you want something more current. The 8800 GTS would work fine for that game though.

That CPU is still fast enough to carry along any GPU you want, so I'd go for whatever fits your budget from the latest generation of cards. The GT 750 would be my bet, definitely.

A gt740 is equivalent to that card, with the gddr5 version being faster, ddr3 probably a bit slower. The advantage is much lower power use, and better driver support for new games.

The GTX 750 is much faster and only about $10-20 more.

Since you are giving away the system and it is going to a 9yr old to play minecraft the 8800gts is perfectly fine. That cpu will support a much faster card as the kids games change. Personally I would use the 8800gts until I saw an r9 280 for less than $150 as that is going to be a sweet spot performance wise.
