Well, after 4 months of suffering under XPpro, I finally got win2k back on my comp tonight.

A word to anyone who's contemplating installing XP: DON'T DO IT. Its crap.

Thinking about going back to Win2k myself.

Edit: What put you over the edge and made you go back to win2k?

I just installed it on the new PC I built for LANs. I have had no problems with it at all and I am really starting to like it. Although I really like win2k too. Ive got win2k on 4 of my other computers.

Dude..thats lame. Just cuz ur puter sucks doesnt mean you gotta badmouth XP :D

Nah man, just kiddin bout the sucky comp, but XP really is just a prettier version of 2k, IMO.

Lots of people are very happy with XP, Im not cuz I have compatibility problems, Ill bet you probably did too.

Friend of mine who isn't at all incompetent is also thouroughly unimpressed with XP. My nightmare experience from hell I was sure was unusual so I won't beat a dead horse on it. XP needs a service pack or three and get their hardware support up to spec. I doubt I'll look at it again until at least the end of the year.

I've been on XP for about 7 weeks, I'm not sure how well I like it.

Overall I don't find it as stable as 2K, and I don't like the simplification of some things.

I'm teetering on the edge of formatting & going back to 2K.

If I do I'll probably spring for one of the 120 GB / 8 MB WD drives.

:D

Well XP has some newer features but it just seems to me to be win2k that sucks up extra ram and looks kind of pretty. Win2k is rock-solid and runs everything I throw at it so why bother upgrading?

When I installed XP, I kinda felt bad, since win2k was such a great OS. Felt like I was cheating on my computer with a hot new OS.

I happened to find XP a LOT more stable. I guess it is all unique to each persons hardware config. My 2k crashes roughly every 2 or 3 days, XP NEVER crashed for me....weird

Actually the weird thing there is that win2k crashes that frequently! I only reboot win2k now for the updates which MS lately has thought it prudent to send out every couple of days.

I can't remember the last time I actually rebooted my 2k server system...oh wait, it was 13 days ago and counting. I think the only reason why I shut it off is if I want a completely silent room at night when I sleep (Gotta love those Compaq power supplies for how quiet they are)

I've had XP since it came out (didnt pay for it, got it for free from Microsoft) and I'm sticking with win2k until I'm not satisfied with it. I like to stick with what works, and i know win2k works.

Had W2K since before it was initially released. Loved it. Had XP since it was intitially released. Loved it. . I've even swapped 3 Motherboard CPU Compo's since I had XP on my main System with out having to wipe and reinstall it. 2 AMD Via Chipset Combo's and a P4 Intel Chipset Combo. Having the same SCSI Adapter hardrive allowed me to access the OS without having to do a repair to install a new Hal. On my Secondary SYStem I've gone from a SIS Chipset to a i810 to a Via PLE33 to an i815b and all I've had to do is just do the install/ repair routine (due to different IDE Controllers) and it's ran great without any issues.

It is not crap, they did a very good job on it. I'm just not quite convinced that it's an upgrade from 2K. It's a little too glossy & dumbed down for my tastes.

Actually it's not dumbed down, it's just some of the things you did in GUI in W2K can only be done via a Command Line in XP Pro.

I've only used XP a few times, but from what I've gathered, it's just 2k with a lot of visual effects and annoying, unnecessary integration. I wasn't too thrilled with the GUI, so I think I'll pass. Maybe in a few years I might upgrade out of necessity, but until 2k becomes outdated, I'm sticking with it.

Well it's definitely a minor version update. Hence why it's version 5.1.

But it does have quite a few changes over Windows 2000. Mostly to do with new sets of policies, better hardware support, added network capabilities, etc. Nothing overly significant for most users.

It runs well on me so I run Windows XP on my workstation and 2000 on my server.

I prefer win2k because I'm going for MCSE and it's the OS I spend the bulk of my time looking at.However, XP is pretty slick and is feature rich in the networking dept :)

I wrote the Windows XP MCP exam and it had a whole bunch of questions on printers. :) But then it was nice how I wasn't questioned much about the "legacy" networking stuff as I have no clue how to make uses of those.

Yup. I like the networking features in Windows XP except for that it runs slow as hell once in a while. It's an odd problem I didn't figure out yet.

LOL, what is it with the abundence of printer questions on exams anyway ?
