I have a p3 1ghz and i am thinking about retiring it to a 2nd computer state. I have a cusl2-c motherboard. I was wondering what could the highest overclock you could see out of a p3 1g... in the best conditions, watercool, pelt, ect... Im just curious

Depends upon the stepping.
cB0 stepping: I doubt you'd ever even see it at 1GHz period.
cC0 stepping: 1.1GHz with extremely good cooling and an exceptionally good chip
cD0 stepping: 1.4-1.5GHz with supercooling and an extremely good overclocking chip.

Realistic overclocks without going crzy on the cooling and without assuming an exceptionally good overclocking chip:
cB0 stepping: As above.
cC0 stepping: 1030-1050MHz.
cD0 stepping: 1.1-1.2GHz

The cD0 PIII's are actually very respectable overclockers, and are easily far better then the cC0 and earlier steppings.
I've got a cD0 PIII 866 here that'll do 1157 no sweat at default voltage. :)

My 1 GHz CD0 PIIIEB will do 1.2 stock voltage and factory HS/Fan. My nic doesn't like 40 MHz PCI though.

my second system is a p3 733eb and i had that running stable @ 925 with no extra cooling besides a cheap case fan
