I have used AMD for years, and still love them - but I have come to the decision that I am not so much an avid overclocker -as I am just someone who wants reliability, some good speed, and QUIET.

Just fixed my niece's Gateway - with a 433 Celeron. It runs about as fast as my Duron 1K - and is SO QUIET. I bet there is a really good inexpensive board out there to use with P4's that I can build a quiet system with.

Thanks for any and all recomendations.

More information would be good. Ie: what this new computer will be used for. What CPU you will be buying. etc etc

The msi 645e-max will work fine with a 533 fsb cpu up to 2.8 (cpus without hyperthreading support). Target usa has them for about $42 shipped. I use an earlier version of the board, and it works ok. For hyperthreading support and upgradability, the albatron 865pe pro is also good, and is probably less than $100 by now. It has hyperthreading and 800 fsb support.

Would like to get over a gig & 1/2 as far as speed, and will probably put 256 ram in. I am really a bit in the dark on Intel - 800 FSB would be good, I am sure.

I would put this all into the ATX case I have now - which has two fans in the case - and the fan on the CPU.

The real question might be - if I use the same case, and do not change the fans at all - I will not be really improving on sound - will I? That is one of the main things I was shooting for.

May be barking up the wrong tree !!
