Good non-itunes ipod software? + ipod woes from a non-ipod user

Hi all -

My cousin picked up an ipod for Xmas and had a little trouble getting it up and running on her computer at home that had Music Match taking over everything. I set up the ipod on my Dell laptop with iTunes and after some fumbling got things to "work" but definitely not ideally for the typical drag and drop Windows user.

I was looking up some ipod hacks to help her get away from iTunes and found software like this one. Has anyone tried these? Do they have any issues that a simple rip CD -> ipod user might experience?

"Issues" I/she had with learning the iTunes interface and how it connects to the ipod (nano in this case):
- iTunes wants one computer to sync mp3/aac files. i.e. is there any way to physically transfer mp3s from one computer to another? It appeared that hooking it up to a different computer and "syncing" it would cause everything on the ipod to be replaced with whatever was on the new system.
- No easy drag and drop of mp3 files to ipod
- No copying of data only?
- The difference between the Library and the ipod...it took me a bit to figure this out in the interface, but made sense once I did.

Itunes : Edit -> preferences -> Ipod

you can get the options for manual control there

you can't put songs through itunes on your computer and transfer them to the library of another computer, what you can do is set the ipod as a disk drive and then just copy the songs onto it and then when you plug it into the other computer, being seen as a disk you copy those songs onto that computers hard drive

there are some programs that will extract the songs from an ipod
