Good non-flexing keyboard

I'm looking to buy someone a nice keyboard and mouse set and hoping there are some good suggestions. The current keyboard he has is a microsoft keyboard but it seems uncomfortable for him to type on for some reason. The mouse is only a three button micrsoft optical so I'm looking for a nicer mouse with more buttons.

Wireless (RF) and wired are both ok.
Ergonomic is ok but not the ones where the keys are really spaced so that the keyboard has a huge gap in the middle.
Keyboard should be good for typing and have minimal flex
$50-60 dollar range for both together but can go a bit higher
Keyboard needs to have the insert, delete, home, end, pg up and down, keys in the normal position, ie, two rows three columns.

Edit: Actually, after doing a comparison between the bad keyboard and a good keyboard, I think I have a good idea about the cause of the discomfort. On a normal keyboard I have, the spacebar's slope is just about 0, almost angled toward the other keys. On this keyboard, the spacebar is curved and it's top is angled toward the user, not the other keys and so the thumb has to travel further down to actuate the key, which slows down typing and causes discomfort.

The best recomendation i can make is for your friend to go to a store that sells KBs and Mice. That way he can get a look at what is availible and feel if it will be confertable for him or not.
