in december, the restaurant that ive managed for a loooong time caught fire in the laundry room. only 2 rooms had actual flame damage, but the whole building was covered in soot. at first we thought it would be around 2 months to get back up, but delay after delay and now its sept. and still no work has started on the rebuilding. my boss(mr. k) is great, and actually covered my salary until june. we have been very loyal to each other over the years, and great friends, but it was almost getting to the point where i was going to have to move on and find another long-term job and start making money again.
luckily, at the end of may, his brother opened another restaurant so i went to work there as a cook. that put me in a hard spot, as i dont like to get caught in between their brotherly spats, as i am good friends with both. but, it really hasnt been so bad as tension has been very low, and i have been able to pay my bills.
today mr. k calls me and tells me we finally have approval to begin rebuilding. meeting with the contractors tomorrow to start work. what a relief. i dont make outlandish money, but get paid well for what i do, and have a flexible schedule for whatever i need as far as family time, vacations, etc. im just glad we can start working on it now, and we will be back new and impoved in short time. may be a good christmas for this family after all.
