MS, Bungie, and Mac Publishing [Blue-11:08 AM EDT] - 1 Comment
As mentioned previously, loonyboi attended the just-completed MacWorld keynote speech here in NYC this morning, and he just called in with some more details about Bungie's and Microsoft's collective future plans, which turn out to be indicating stronger Mac presence for Microsoft, rather than a weakened Mac presence for Bungie (as so many had feared). As part of Alex Seropian's announcement about Mac Halo (story), the CEO and co-founder of Bungie brought out Ed Fries, head of games at Microsoft, and together they announced the formation of a Mac publishing company (name and further such details on this have yet to be revealed). In connection with this, they also announced that all of Microsoft's upcoming games will be released for the Macintosh, and there are also plans for the release of some already available MS titles such as Age of Kings and MS Flight Simulator.

Even as our own loonyboi is attending the keynote speech at MacWorld this morning, David Lynch sends along early word of one of the big announcements from Steve Jobs' opening remarks. According to David, Mr. Jobs presented Alex Seropian, CEO of Bungie, who announced that Halo, the upcoming shooter from Bungie that has had an uncertain future on any platform other than the Xbox since Bungie's recent acquisition by Microsoft (story), will indeed be coming out on the Macintosh. While this is good news for Mac loyalists, who have long considered Bungie to be one of their most devoted game developers, there is still no word for certain on whether or not the game will come out on the PC (though PC owners eager for Halo may look at this news as a very hopeful sign, in light of the obvious similarities between PC and Xbox architecture).
