They just don't care dealing with the US carriers, which pretty much mean giving up on the whole US market. All the 20 fans they have in this country will have to buy direct (or get it from newegg/amazon) if they want the newest Xperia phones.

It's definitely intentional. I don't know if it is essentially stupid. I personally like it better if Samsung/HTC/LG/all phone manufacturers stop making deals with US carriers and just sell their phones direct and through non-carrier resellers. But we all know this is never going to happen, so whatever.
Well, Sony did deal with T-Mobile for the xperia z (eventually... In July )

Well, I'm really enjoying my Xperia Z. Mine also came with the docking station - to the previous poster that stated that he/she would not pay extra for it. And about the flaps - that's a price to pay for water resistance. I actually think that it gives the device a very sleek and refined look.

They gotta figure out a better way to waterproof or dump waterproofing. Having to pop open/close the tiny covers to charge or plugging a headset (every time!) becomes quickly tiring for both users and devices. I gifted a tablet Z to a friend when it came out and we ended up returning it. There were minor shortcomings but his biggest complaint was those tiny covers hanging off of weak/thin films.

There are waterproof 3.5mm headset jacks, like how the s4 active implements it

For charging, migrate to wireless charging?

You can charge with a dock thanks to the little metal pads, but anything else requires popping the tabs. Which is ironic cuz they market this thing as the next Walkman.
