Well I haven't switched yet, but nationwide seems to offer a quote more then 100.00 dollars less then allstate(my current provider) over 6 months. As I'm sure most of you know I am about to buy a new used car and I was kinda worried about how much it would cost since I would need to put full coverage on it as opposed to the liability only I have on both my cars now. I currentlly pay 441.xx/6 months for an 89 Olds and a 90 Ford Tbird. Nationwide quoted me between 296.xx and 423.xx. I think they list a wide range since they also use your credit as part of the quote. I think i should be able to get it for around 350.00 or less. Plus I added a 97 Maxima with full coverage to see what it would cost and they quoted me at 489.xx-699.xx, so again i think i could get it for under 550.00 which is only like 10 bucks extra a month then I pay now, so that is sweet. SInce I had budgeted for an extra 50-75 for insurance. Now thats more money I can put towards a car payment.

I just wanted to know of other nationwide users experience with them, how are they as a company? I think my dad used to use them, but can't remember if thats who is auto insurance was through. I basically just want to make sure they get stuff done quickly and correctly and with good customer service. Thanks

See if Erie Insurance is available in your area. You'll probably save even more money. Plus, Erie is highly rated. I've been with them 17 years now. Made a few claims - due to some hail damage on the house and car. They were great to deal with.

Oh, and your subject for this thread *sucks* because those GEICO commercials are so irritating.

Yeah, I saved a bunch of money switching FROM Geico! Those scumbags tried to rip me off by charging me over $3,000 a year to insure my new Audi, when Progressive wanted HALF that for the same coverage :(

Agreed!
I called Geico for a quote and they offered a quote that was 30% more than the best quote (Nationwide). Any other people with Geico experiences ?

I have Mercury Insurance and that stuff is cheap! I'm a 29 y.o. male, no accidents/tickets, in SoCal, '98 Honda Civic DX, and I have full comprehensive insurance ($50l/$100k) for $825 annually. They rock!

ajpa123, what have your experiences been with nationwide?

Tiles2tech I do think i can get erie insurance here in columbus, but apparentlly you have to actually call the agent for a quote, so I can't do it right now, have to wait till tomorrow.

You should also check into Esurance. Their rates are low because they dont have the overhead of having agents everywhere. I've had them for 3 years, before convincing friends/family to switch as well. My mother even had to file 2 claims with them and they are very quick in responding.

Definitely worth checking into.

Geico wanted to charge me $1600 a year for car insurance. Allstate charged me about $700. It was a weird situation. I used to use Geico and they charged me a reasonable amount. There was a period of about half a year when I didnt need my car, so I didn't renew my insurance with them. After that half year, I figure Geico was decent enough, so I tried to go back. All of the sudden my rates jump up like crazy. Not renewing once and now I'm no longer considered a preferred customer. So I call up Allstate, and they give me preferred customer rates. Funny policies like this really make me wonder about Geico.

Actually, I switched to them about 2 months ago and got myself into a major fender-bender last week. Check out my thread titled 'Guess how much $$$ damage' and you will see where I am at with them.

<rant>My local 'brick & mortart' Nationwide agent is a total asshat... he was more interested in lecturing me about things (cuz i'm young-looking) and harping on one point than actually advising me or helping me and i went absolutely mother-fvckin ballistic on him and told him to get some manners.. lol. I listened to his crap and took it all in.. then proceed to list to him what he needed to do to improve his people-skills. He challenged what I told him and told me how he was in businees since 83, so i went ahead and explained things to him in detail with his exact quotes.. I said, 'thank god you don't depend on personality for getting business' Big Loser.. I hope your agent is better!

This is funny: The day after the accident, I filed with the other people's Insurance company and went to my agent to make them aware of this. I went there twice.. both times the guy is rude. Later, i call to ask a question.. His wife says 'When you get a chance, please stop by so we can make a copy of the police report'.. I was there twice already that day. The loser guy was too interested in lecturing me rather than looking at the police report and making a copy of it, asking me what happened, and offer advice. Total morons. lol ... It's funny to see losers masquerade as responisble people.. </rant>

Hopefully i will have good things to say about the general performance of the Insurance company in the upcoming weeks.
AJ.

GEICO was the best bet for me, but then again when I split off from being on my parent's plan (4 or so years ago) they were with GEICO for close to ten. So apparantly I got some sort of 'discount' rate due to the length of time we have been customers.

Anyhow, the few times I have had to use GEICO I think they are great. They have 24/7 service and I know some people who go thru local agents that have to wait for Mon-Fri ~8ish to ~5ish to file a claim.

Yeah I just talked to my mom and she mentioned that erie insurance was the cheapest insurance by far in her area. She doesn't go throught hem though, since she has issues with her local agent. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but something with her life insurance policy, it got lost or he told her it was cashed in or something. ANyways I think i will give them a call later, since they have been recommended by several people. Tiles2tech being one of them, thanks

I've gotten plenty of quotes and each time Geico is the cheapest. I hate their commercials, but ya gotta admit they work. (Kinda like... CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW ?!)

AJ.

I have also has a bad experience with a nationwide agent. I was in an minor accident, and my agent completely refused to fight for me. I firmly believe it was not my fault, neither did my passenger beside me, and neither did the officer that arrived at the scene. However, my agent takes 2 weeks to "review" the report, gets my side of the story wrong at least 3 times, turns down my repeated offers to meet in person to make sure he knew exactly what happened, tells me he took so long b/c he was "consulting with his manager", and then says he believes it was my fault, and they want to settle as soon as possible in order to avoid going to court. I'm like wtf, aren't you supposed to be on my side? Then on top of that, he says they're giving me a couple points, b/c I am now apparently a "high risk" factor, even though the accident occurred at < 5mph, and the damages to either vehicle was < $100. I know that it might have just been the agent, but the fact that nationwide's interests was not in defending me, but merely staying out of court and avoiding the extra cost is inexcusable.

However, on the flip side my family has been using nationwide for nearly 15 years without complaint, so you should probably take my bad experience with a grain of salt. I guess I'm just a little bitter ;) . But I am still in the process of finding another agency though with decent rates that will actually try and defend me :D
