Good news for Plasma, Panasonic opens new plant

If you can afford a plasma screen that size, are you really concerned with the amount of electricity it is using?

Kind of like saying a high end sports car gets bad gas mileage and the price at the pump will be crazy.

If you buy a Panasonic 150" plasma and you are concerned about costs you would probably be more concerned about the shipping cost! It is currently around $20,000 as the monster comes from Japan by air freight in a 747. The 103" shipping cost is a cheap ~ $5000. The 103" fits in an 18 wheeler trailer, barely, as the box is much larger than the set. Better have a fork lift handy also as the set is about 500 lbs without the box. You probably want a sky hook for the 150. Both prices include a visit to your location by a Panasonic tech to see if, indeed, your mounting location is capable of supporting the weight. (Panasonic does not want lawsuits for flattened viewers) A 2000 lb capacity wall for the 103, somewhat unspecified for the 150". The 103" Panasonic wall mount goes for around $5000 also + shipping naturally. For 150" buyers there is generally a rather large expense involving removing and replacing a wall in order to get the thing inside. Although you might just leave it outside and use it for a drive-in, but rain protection might be a bit pesky. Those who question who would want one, probably haven't seen one.
